Adolescent Psychiatric Services

Adolescent Services at the Albert Road Clinic provide:

• Inpatient Services
• Day Programs
• Outreach

Programs

Young people may present with a range of psychiatric problems including: depression; anxiety; psychosis; eating disorders; school refusal; obsessive compulsive disorder; social and behavioural problems.

REFERRAL PROCESS

Following referral to a psychiatrist and a comprehensive assessment of the adolescent and family a management plan is developed which may involve a range of treatment options.

The multidisciplinary team includes: psychiatric nurses; allied health; an adolescent physician and psychiatrists.

All programs for Inpatient and Day Programs include access to:

• individual therapy
• family therapy (as required)
• weekly parent and sibling support groups
• liaison with school and other relevant work and community services

Group programs are informed by:

• Dialectical behaviour therapy
• Psychotherapy
• Experiential therapies e.g. art and music therapy
• Wellness and resilience theory

Inpatient program:

• 24 hour therapeutic milieu for young people between the ages of 12-22
• specialist nursing and therapy team
• comprehensive group program - which focuses on individual and group process.

Day programs:

Arch is a 3-day a week adolescent day program for adolescents and young adults 12-22 years which aims to increase resilience, independent living skills and wellness.

Several closed groups are offered throughout the year.

Outreach:

A service where an outreach worker will visit the young person in their own home, at school or in the community, with the aim to provide support in consultation with their individual psychiatrist. Young people can only be referred to this service if they have previously attended the inpatient or day programs.
