Adult Outpatient Treatment Programmes
The Mood Disorders Day Programme is designed to help people with long-standing or complex difficulties with mood and anxiety which impede living an active and satisfying life. The programme caters for patients with unipolar and bipolar mood disorders. Participants work towards living more effectively and having more satisfactory relationships. The programme is particularly suitable for patients who may have difficulty coping with a chronic mood disorder, and require intensive psychiatric and therapeutic help.
The Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Programme uses a highly-regarded treatment approach for self-destructive behaviours, e.g., overdosing, self-mutilation, and anger "attacks". The programme is designed for people with Borderline Personality Disorder who need to acquire a skills base for dealing with emotions, relationships, and fragile self-esteem. The DBT model helps patients to learn skills which can gradually replace the self-destructive reactions with enhanced distress tolerance, relationship skills, and better regulation of emotions.
The Therapy/Skills Programme is designed for individuals with long histories of emotional or psychiatric problems including chronic mood problems, and personality disorders. The program can help people who have difficulty in developing secure relationships; appropriately expressing their emotions; or tolerating distressing thoughts, memories, and feelings. The programme uses a combination of group therapy, individual therapy, and skills training. The Therapy/Skills Programme is often used as a key component for long-term treatment of patients with complex problems.
The Transition Programme assists participants to understand, manage, and reduce psychiatric symptoms soon after inpatient admission. The immediate outcome of the programme is that participants will be able to function more effectively and autonomously in the community. The programme is particularly suitable for patients who may have difficulty adjusting to their outpatient environment. The programme is based on cognitive-behavioral techniques, symptom management skills and psycho-education.
