COVID-19 update from Albert Road Clinic

25 May 2020

Albert Road Clinic would like to thank all of its patients, employees, doctors and local public health authorities for their assistance, patience and understanding during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Health and Human Services has approved a comprehensive plan to reopen Albert Road Clinic, effective immediately. We are pleased to once again be able to provide vital mental health services to people in our community.

Since temporarily closing on 27 April, Albert Road Clinic has undergone a deep decontamination clean conducted by external contractors. Staff have also undertaken additional training and education in relation to processes and practices for infection prevention and control.

In addition to education and training, a number of strategies have been reinforced, including comprehensive screening and temperature checking of all staff, doctors, patients and visitors who wish to enter the facility.

We have revised our social distancing strategies, including allowing for additional spacing and staggering of shifts in the dining room, the closure of the inpatient gym, and a reduction in group therapy sessions both in time and in number of patients able to attend. We have also created a new environmental services plan, which includes increased cleaning of high traffic areas such as desks, lifts, hand rails, door handles and dining room.

Returning patients will not be allowed visitors, except on a case-by-case basis after review with the treating psychiatrist and executive of the clinic. Importantly, all staff and doctors are required to undertake additional testing prior to returning to work at Albert Road Clinic.

All patients will be provided with comprehensive information in relation to social distancing and their obligations in maintaining social distancing to mitigate risk for themselves, their fellow patients and staff at Albert Road Clinic. Daily temperature checking and symptom review of all patients will occur on a daily basis.

Patients who have enquiries should contact the clinic on 9256 8311.
