How to Refer a Patient
Enquiries
For general enquiries about accessing the services at Albert Road Clinic please call 03 9256 8322.
Private health insurance is recommended and a referral from a psychiatrist or general practitioner is required.
Referrals
Medical practitioners should direct all referral enquiries to our Intake Service via telephone 1300 251 243 from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
Referrals can be faxed directly to 03 9256 8361 or emailed via referrals.ARC@ramsayhealth.com.au.

A referral from a medical practitioner is required for an inpatient admission.

Fax referral to 03 9256 8361 or email via referrals.ARC@ramsayhealth.com.au
Referrals may be addressed to ‘Dear Doctor at Albert Road Clinic’ or to an accredited psychiatrist of your choice (please refer to the specialists directory).

Please include in the referral:

Patient’s name, address, date of birth, contact numbers and Health Insurance details

Outline of presenting problem
-
Previous mental health history, treatments and potential risk factors
-
Relevant medical history
-
Current medications
-
Intake contacts the patient and:

Intake contacts psychiatrist/s appropriate to the patient’s needs
-
If admission criteria is met and a psychiatrist accepts the admission:
Referrers, please allow up to 2 days for notification of the outcome of a referral. Note: Psychiatrists have variable office hours.
On occasions when there is not a psychiatrist available to accept the admission Intake notifies the referring practitioner.
An electronic discharge summary will be sent to the referrer upon discharge of the patient and should typically arrive within 48 hours.

Intake advises the referrer of the psychiatrist accepting the referral

The psychiatrist’s secretary contacts the patient to arrange an outpatient appointment

Following the appointment the psychiatrist makes an internal referral to Community Programs

Community Programs contacts the patient and:

Following the assessment by the Community Programs therapist the patient is booked in to the appropriate program
