ECT & TMS

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a therapeutic medical procedure used to treat psychiatric conditions including severe depression, mania and schizophrenia. It is performed under general anaesthesia and involves the use of a brief, controlled electrical current to induce a seizure within the brain. This seizure causes chemical within brain which results in quick and significant alleviation of severe psychiatric symptoms. ECT is a safe and effective procedure that often works when other treatments have been unsuccessful.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non- invasive therapy that is used to treat severe psychiatric conditions. TMS does not require anaesthesia or medication and uses magnetic fields to briefly stimulate targeted areas of the brain that are involved in controlling mood.  TMS has been shown to be a safe and well-tolerated procedure that can be an effective treatment for adults with depression and other psychiatric conditions.
